OBJECTIVES

  1. Promote IT careers in the Mid-Missouri area
  2. Encourage and support interaction between schools and businesses
  3. Promote Jefferson City as a resource base for technical employers
  4. Analyze current supply and demand needs in IT careers

 

OBJECTIVE #1: PROMOTE IT CAREERS IN THE MID-MISSOURI AREA

MEDIA

A. Participate in and coordinate Job/Career Fairs (evaluate advertising strategies)
B. Develop a structure to meet speaker requests, etc. (One point of contact for Marketing, Advertising, PR, Speakers)
C. Select appropriate advertising
D. Investigate attracting local media to the coalition

WEBSITE

A. Develop resume bank with autoresponse (with future database capabilities)
B. Register to search engine on-line job services (DILE, MONSTER, etc.)
C. Explore on-line career fairs

EMPLOYER

A. Promote development into IT careers internally as appropriate
B. Work cooperatively with Jefferson City IT coalition
C. Help employers identify qualified candidates for career development into the IT field using tools such as aptitude tests
D. Establish local user groups/user contact lists

FINANCE

A. Ensure funds are available through increased membership
B. Explore grant opportunities

EDUCATION

A. Serve as a focal point for the collection of information
B. Promote IT careers to students, parents, & academic advisors
C. Explore possibility of presenting seminars that address communication skills, interview skills, etc.

EDUCATION FAST TRACK

A. Develop an accelerated curriculum (Fast Track Program) that can be used by ITC members
B. Gather current IT community training needs

 

OBJECTIVE #2: ENCOURAGE AND SUPPORT INTERACTION BETWEEN SCHOOLS AND BUSINESSES

WEBSITE

A. Explore internship for website development

EMPLOYER

A. Identify both the number and qualification to effectively describe and quantify employer needs
B. Work with employers and secondary schools to develop job shadowing/mentoring programs
C. Work with employers to provide live project scenarios for post-secondary education programs

EDUCATION

A. Identify available curriculum and provide input to curriculum development to meet employer needs
B. Assist the schools with increasing IT enrollment/graduation and career placement
C. Involve secondary schools in the coalition
D. Develop a program for faculty internships during summer months

TASK FORCE

A. Identify pool of teaching candidates for the schools

BASE MEASURE

A. Quantify enrollment rates before and after promotion of IT careers
B. Quantify the number of IT positions within the Coalition employers

EDUCATION FAST TRACK

A. Coordinate implementation and ongoing operations of the Fast Track program with the education and employer committees

 

OBJECTIVE #3: PROMOTE JEFFERSON CITY AS A RESOURCE BASE FOR TECHNICAL EMPLOYERS

MEDIA

A. Work with Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce and develop marketing tools
B. Lobbying for technology advancement

EMPLOYER

A. Serve as communication/marketing network for IT in Jefferson City
B. Work with David Meyer, Economic Development Director, Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce, to educate coalition members on chamber goals/changes

EDUCATION

A. Describe education resources available in Jefferson City

EDUCATION FAST TRACK

A. Provide and update the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce with information an graduation statistics from the fast track program
B. Track the successful placement of graduates to ITC members and share information with the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce

TECHNOLOGY

A. Bandwidth - explore opportunities to reduce costs and/or increase capacity in the area
B. Investigate other technology barriers to companies or individuals making decisions to locate in the Jefferson City area

 

OBJECTIVE #4: ANALYZE CURRENT SUPPLY AND DEMAND NEEDS IN IT CAREERS
