With employers and educators in hand, the next step was to measure the interest of area residents in IT careers. Through an advertising campaign, those interested in pursuing a career in Information Technology were asked to fill out a questionnaire. The Coalition received 267 completed questionnaires from interested area residents. Of those respondents, 76% were interested in a career change, 25% already held a bachelors degree and 55% indicated they did not have prior computer experience. This became our common database. The coalition encouraged potential IT candidates to take a programmers aptitude test to insure that the investment needed pursue a new career, was warranted.
